Biography

Jahneva Harrison Bame is a contributor to the SDG4 and SDG5 Gender Equality Corporate Guidebooks. Her degrees include a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Drexel University and a master’s degree in Special Education and Secondary Math from Chestnut Hill College. Jahneva holds certifications in Special Education, Reading and Math.

Bame is an educator who has been privileged to serve students and teachers in a variety of settings across the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA region. She received the Dr. Constance Clayton Excellence in Teaching Award (teacher of the year) for 2019-2020. Past roles include elementary and secondary teacher, teacher coach, cooperating teacher and founding school administrator. She has served as a consultant for parents, public school systems and private schools on issues regarding classroom and program placement, effective instruction, learning and teaching strategies, and adaptations for academic subjects.

Championing students who traditionally have been overlooked, Jahneva develops teachers and staff to provide accelerated learning for exceptional students through her role as special education department chair. She is committed to sharing her passion for excellent teaching and learning.  Bame also participates as a Lead Teacher for the Liberty Teaching Fellows program and has worked alongside several local universities to support new teacher development.

As a partner in creating social equity, she participates in regular equity development to reform her school’s practices and ensure that all students have the tools and access for success. Jahneva’s work is rooted in the belief that good teaching empowers students to become effective citizens and shape a brighter future.

Her passion for education goes beyond schools; she has led learning and development for small businesses and nonprofits, both as a consultant and as a volunteer. Jahneva’s additional interests include supporting the anti-racism movement through volunteer and fundraising, healing through foods and exploring new places and the beach as often as possible.
