Why Join Our UN SDG Project?

I am passionate about Sustainable Development Goals and especially SDG 5 on gender equality. I am eager to eradicate all forms of discrimination against women and to improve the conditions for women in business, also focusing on marginalized groups like immigrant women and women in First Nations. This project offers a fantastic opportunity to make changes in society and to educate corporates so they can create a better working environment and achieve gender equality.

Alma Karabeg is a contributor to the SDG5 Corporate Guidebook. She holds an International Baccalaureate Diploma, a BA in Political Science, a MA in Sociology, and an MPA. She studied in Norway, France, the USA, Ireland, and Denmark. For her BA assignment in Sociology, she wrote about immigrant women’s status in the labor market in Norway. Currently, she is taking Ph.D. courses on Arctic political relations and her topic is “Asian countries interest in the Arctic” focusing on the case of Japan and South Korea.
Alma has professional experience from the government and aid sectors, working on business development in several countries in Europe. She supported companies in entering new markets and lowering the threshold for establishing their business abroad. Karabeg has skills in internationalization, project management, partnership, business development support in different markets, innovation ecosystems, fundraising, and grant programs. Alma contributed a chapter on cross-border collaboration between Russia and Norway to a book documenting a 2011 international round-table conference at MGIMO in Moscow. She has led projects intending to support women in business, especially in Eastern Europe and the Balkans. She is a member of several Boards of Directors.
Alma has a passion for creating positive change in society, so she held a voluntary role in an international NGO called Junior Chamber International supporting SDG 5.
Currently, she is involved in a research project on female entrepreneurship in Japan as a part of women empowerment in the framework of Sustainable Development Goal 5 on achieving Gender Equality. Alma lives in Norway and enjoys sailing and yoga.
